There’s something truly special about the recipes and rituals that bring families together at Christmas. For many of us, it’s not just about the food itself — it’s about the memories wrapped up in every bite.
When Beth got in touch with us earlier this year, she shared the most wonderful story about her dad, Philip Jones, and his famous Christmas sausages made with our Leonards White Cumberland mix.
Philip was a retired lecturer who lived in the South Wales Valleys. After losing his wife in 1999, he poured his energy into cooking and baking — from Welsh cakes and windberry tarts to handmade chocolates and, of course, sausages & sausage rolls. Every Christmas, he’d fire up his sausage maker and prepare a festive batch to share with his family.
His grandchildren were huge fans. Whenever he travelled to Cornwall to visit, the car would be packed with homemade Welsh cakes and plenty of Leonards White Cumberland sausages.
Since Philip passed away in 2019, Beth has lovingly continued the tradition — using her dad’s sausage maker and the same mix he trusted every year. Her daughter now looks forward to those sausages every Christmas night, served with cold turkey, chips and gravy.
Beth told us she recently found some photos of her dad making his Christmas sausages — a reminder of how food connects generations and keeps memories alive.
At Leonards, stories like Beth’s mean a lot to us. We’ve always believed that great sausage making is about more than just ingredients — it’s about heritage, craft and care. Whether you’re a family butcher, a food producer, or like Beth, someone keeping a loved one’s tradition alive, we’re proud to play even a small part in your story.
After all, good food is made to be shared — and every recipe tells a story.
